Rest Your HeadTanning can be a pain in the neck ... that is, if you don't have a tanning bed pillow! Tanning bed pillows come in a variety of sizes and features, often designed for extra support and face coverage.
When researching your tanning bed pillow (and there's no reason you can't carry your own - though most salons will have one in the bed waiting), you want to find one that will not slip or slide, but will conform to the shape of the bed. Considering you may be one who naps while tanning, how it cradles your head is also very important.
Tanning bed pillows can be found at MasterTanning.com and are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and fabrics.
Create a Tanning Tattoo! One of the newest, coolest, trends in tanning accessories is the body sticker.
Tanning stickers are a great way to show off your tan, and be as risque as you wish. Want to be naughty? Put a tanning sticker in a spot that only those most intimate with you will see -- then, when you give them a peek, they will see an adorable heart stenciled in glorious bronze!
Tanning stickers can be sold by the salon by the roll. There are many options to choose from, whether you want that heart, or a sun, or simple smiley face. The idea is to do what reflects your personality the best, and share it with whomever you choose. When you remove the sticker post-tan, they create a sort of "tan tattoo" which can be anything from a Playboy bunny to a cute little mermaid!
Eyewear Is a Must-WearTanning accessories can be about ease or comfort, but one tanning accessory is simply about essential safety. You should always make sure to have a pair of quality eye goggles with you. These can be disposable eye wear or a pair you always keep with you. Just never forget them. Closing your eyes is not enough, and no protection at all is just asking for eye damage.
Goggles come in a variety of colors and shapes, but most important is finding a pair that is uncracked and will fit your face snugly. If you have an especially round or small face, make sure to enquire about products more fitting (no pun intended!) for your unique specifications.
Wear a BonnetProtect your hair! You may use a shower cap when bathing in order to maintain or protect your hair style. Were you aware that a similar product exists to protect our hair and scalp while tanning?
The tanning hair bonnet is best to use with color-treated hair that runs the risk of fading from the UV rays. But it also has other benefits, such as retaining hair moisture (tanning can dry out hair), and keeping hair off your neck, in order to help you get a more even tan. Also, the bonnet is a great tool to help you keep those pesky rays from hitting your scalp where a tan is not necessary!
Care for Your LipsYou may be used to lotioning up your body and putting goggles on, but it's easy to forget to protect your lips.
A good SPF-15 (or greater) lip balm will not only protect your lips from burning, but it will also keep your lips well-hydrated. Healthy lips connote a healthy body and are an important part of nourishing the skin. Many varieties of lip care balms contain shea butter or other moisturizers to further protect and hydrate our lips.
These are also a great option as a soothing gel if your lips have already been burned by either the sun or indoor tanning.
High-Contrast TanningWhiten your teeth as you tan? It's not a sci-fi film but reality. Now on the market are heat-activated teeth whitening gels that can remove surface stains and brighten our teeth to natural whiteness as we tan.
For many of us, the hardest part about using teeth whiteners is avoiding talking or licking them off while they are activating. But while you are lounging about in a tanning bed, here's a perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone and save time and effort.
A great accessory is one that does its own job in addition to helping along the main attraction. Call it a stellar supporting cast - with white teeth!
Nail Care While in the BoothDid you just get a new manicure? The last thing you want to do is muck it up with spray tan or lotion. It also will help avoid the potential for yellowing or whitening during your tanning session.
You may want to look into UV protection for your finger nails. They are reusable, and stretch right over your nails. Take them with you, and wear them in the booth or on the bed. They won't cover any additional area above your nails, so your tan will stay just as even as you want, but your petal-pink tips can stay as fresh as daisies.
Note that toe savers also exist so you can protect your manicure and your pedicure at the same time!
Music to Your EarsTanning is largely about relaxation, and no matter what method you choose, you want to be as comfortable as possible.
A lot of people choose to listen to music while in the tanning bed, and a quality pair of ear phones is a great way to start. Many salons will be happy to supply a pair for you to use ... But really, wouldn't you feel more comfortable with your own? Get a pair that is comfortable for your needs, but avoid giant ear covers. You don't want to end up covering your face and making it harder to achieve that optimum even tan.
Often, tanning rooms have low-powered speakers, and you won't need headphones at all. Be sure to ask what the situation is at your particular salon, and be prepared to snooze to your tuneage!
Keep Your Acrylic SafeA must-have tanning accessory for every tanning salon is a good acrylic polish.
Acrylic polish helps to get rid of surface stains and scratches, and keeps the acrylic of your tanning bed looking good as new, even as it is used all day, day in and day out!
Thankfully, these are super-easy to use too. Just pour a small amount on a cloth and wipe, wipe, wipe. They are easily purchased and affordable at MasterTanning.com, and at most local and national tanning supply retailers.
